Intimate Destination Wedding at Hacienda Siesta Alegre

THE DAY OF

Puerto Rico Hacienda siesta alegre suite bride

Nancy and I met in high school 14 years ago, so you can imagine my excitement when I flew to Puerto Rico for her wedding. In 2015, while I was living in New York City Nancy visited and told me all about Justin. Little did we know she would be marrying him 3 years later.

It was my first time traveling with all of my equipment so I brought only the essentials. The entire day I shot with the GH5 and the 50 mm canon lens. It has great image stabilization so I didn’t bring a monopod this time. I also brought the Canon 5D with a 24 to 70 mm and a tripod to get my second angles, since I was shooting this wedding by myself.

Around noon, I pulled into Hacienda Siesta Alegre and was greeted by Justin’s parents who were casually hanging by the pool. That’s when I noticed the magic of this place: the pool, the beautiful bedrooms and of course the happiness all around.

The tables for the reception were already set up, so before I headed over to Nancy’s bridal suite, I took a moment to film the details in every table. Lorraine’s Flowers did such a good job decorating all around. Her arrangements combined colors and patters, making the venue look romantic and timeless.

With only one videographer (me) it can be very tricky to film both the bride and the groom getting ready before the ceremony, but since they were literally next door from each other, I was able to capture Nancy getting her make up done and sneak out to see what was going on in Justin’s room. They were both so calm and down to earth it made filming the morning preparation so easy. During this time, I got to meet the Marisol from Lucky You Photography and we instantly clicked! We have a very similar approach to shooting so I felt very comfortable working next to her.

Nancy and Justin had an informal first look and then we followed them around to do some portraits. We couldn’t help but notice that from every angle, we were getting a gorgeous view of the rainforest mountain range, especially during the ceremony.

After the short ceremony, we headed over to the open terrace for the cocktail hour and reception. Glory gave her beautiful maid of honor speech and it was so touching, I realized in that moment I wanted the speech to be big piece in their wedding trailer.

The sun went down and the christmas light lit up the dance floor. This venue is truly magical at any time of the day. Im so happy Nancy and Justin picked it for their wedding day and so grateful they had me film it all!
