Spring Wedding at Heinz Chapel

Before the I Do

I had the pleasure of getting to know Christy and Anthony through my husband who has been friends with them for years. Roommates in college, he got to see firsthand how the love grew between the two. Their relationship began before attending Pittsburgh University though. The happy couple met in High School and have been together since, seeing their partnership through college and eventually a big move to Maryland. Nothing would separate these two.

Knowing them so well, I had the opportunity to be there for the wedding rehearsal and I saw for the first time how breath-taking the venue was. Exclusive to Pittsburgh students, the Heinz chapel boasts a captivating neo-gothic style. Stone vaults, high ceilings, repeated arches, stained glass, and all in a modified cruciform plan, these details worked together to create the perfect wedding space.

The Day Of

spring jewelry trends

I kicked the day off with the groom at the Distrikt Hotel. Surrounded by gifts- including an engraved bottle of Blue Label from the bride- groomsman, and family, Anthony prepared for the day in an intimate setting. Even more personal, though he was surrounded by his wedding party, he preferred to get ready in his room with just his father.

The bride had her own private set up at the Sheraton at Station Square as well. The room was filled with flowers and pastries. Christy and her bridesmaids, being dolled up with the help of Simply Captivating Salon, spent the time going through letters everyone had written for the bride personally. Smiling and crying and laughing, they got through all of them and it was time for Christy to get into her dress. With the help of her mom she was soon ready, and we were off to the chapel.

The ceremony was perfect, in a place that complimented them perfectly. Vows to love one another for the rest of their lives were exchanged and the newlyweds were sent off with on the stairs of the chapel with bubbles. It was all quite lovely and fun.

We hit the party bus next and the celebration began. With two stops for photos and portraits, Christy and Anthony got their wild wedding party going with the pop of a champagne bottle. The group was singing and dancing all the way to the reception.

Held at One Oxford Center, the reception started with introductions and shots of tequila. Anthony and Christy had their first dance to a beautiful song, From This Moment On by Caleb and Kelsey. Christy and her father had their moment as well, with a surprising twist. What started off as a dance to My Girl turned into a duet performance of 8 Days a Week. With a guitar and microphones, the two wowed the guests and especially Christy’s mother who was soon in tears when this happened. The two of them had been rehearsing in secret to surprise her.

The rest of the night was a big celebration. People danced, speeches were made, and toasts were given. Christy and Anthony ended the night with another dance to Sweet Caroline while surrounded by the people who care about them most and in each other’s arms.
