Happily ever after began at Zafra del Caribe
Before the “I Do”
We’ve been with Jony and Liane on their journey thoughr matrimony from the beginning- you might remember them from the Niagara Falls engagement shoot in August of 2017. For my husband and I, their friendship is especially important to us; they were the first friends we had made together. Like myself, they are both from Puerto Rico as well and the connection was instant for all of us.
While Jony and Liane couldn’t decide quite how they met, there’s no question that they were meant to be. With years of friendship, their relationship continued to grow until the rest, as they say, is history. When Jony first proposed, it couldn’t have been more perfect for them. At a place they both loved, a Coldplay Concert, and armed with a video, Jony popped the question. She, of course, said yes.
The Day Of
After weeks of preparing my husband to help me shoot this wedding, we were ready and on our way to Puerto Rico. The ceremony and reception were to be held at Zafra del Caribe in Gurabo. The space boasts a rustic-vintage feel both inside and out that would suit the couple’ s style perfectly.
I spent the morning with Lianne at her bridal suite. It was a beautiful day in Palmas del Mar; sunny and warm. Her morning prep was intimate with only her family and maid of honor. Even more special was the letter her maid of honor gifted her with. Soon enough though, Lianne was in her dress and joined by the rest of her bridal party. It was time to get this party started.
Under a traditional gazebo and surrounded by vibrant greenery, Jony waited for her. My favorite part, perhaps, was the music as a live violinist performed covers from their favorite band and films: Coldplay, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. I don’t think anything else could have suited the couple better.
Sticking close to the personal and unique feeling they had going on, Jony and Lianne began to recite the vows they had each written. They spoke of their journey that led them to this moment and everything they love about each other. Pronounced husband and wife, the newlyweds walked out to the theme song from The Office, impressing guests from start to finish with their humor.
The reception was unlike anything I’d seen before, creating a night to remember. It was easy to tell by now that Jony and Lianne had personalized every detail themselves. Even the wedding favors, bracelets that lit up, were reminiscent of their engagement during the Coldplay concert. During their first dance to Yellow by Coldplay, our bracelets shone brightly in- you guessed it- yellow colored light. It was a full guest experience and quite a sight.
After dinner the dance floor opened and was flooded with props and gags to keep everyone entertained. Fun sunglasses, custom head cut outs, confetti, and beards were donned as people took to the dance floor and found their groove. Before the night was out, Pleneros (a Puerto Rican music band) surprised us with their own unique entertainment. The evening ended much like it had been throughout the day; warm, fun and personal.
