Rebecca and John Lachenmaier elopement at Lake Lochnagar
One of New Zealand’s magical destination, Lake Lochnagar was the perfect setting for Rebecca and John’s Elopement. The pictures speak from themselves but we really wanted to learn about the experience so we interviewed them a few days after they eloped. I specially love the advice Rebecca has for couples looking to Elope: “Don't sweat the small stuff, ultimately as long as you're getting to marry and celebrate with your partner then that's all that matters. (Also, eat! Don't get hangry!)”
Q: How did you two meet?
A: We met online through Instagram as we both had Saint Bernard dogs and the relationship evolved from there.
Q: Where did you elope?
A: We eloped to the Richardson Mountains in Queenstown, we did a "heli wedding" where they organized the celebrant, travel and photography and all we had to do was show up!
Q: How did you choose the Richardson Mountains?
A: As we were both living in New Zealand we decided it would be easier there to elope than dragging our families over (from Scotland and California). We had a chat with NZ Heli Weddings and we were sold.
Q: Why did you two elope?
A: The beautiful scenery, the fact we wouldn't have to make family travel for it as well as less stress and money.
Q: How was the experience?
A: NZ Heli Weddings organized the celebrant who got in touch with us to personalize the ceremony weeks in advance. I booked my own hair and makeup artist who came to our Airbnb in the morning. They did a first look at our apartment then drove us to the hangar. We were then flown to Lochnager where they conducted the ceremony and got photos. When we came back we were driven to other gorgeous locations around Queenstown. Afterwards we went for a meal with some friends and family who knew about it. We will be holding an informal reception and hand fasting in Scotland 2020 to celebrate with more people.
Q: Any advice for couples looking to Elope?
A: Your wedding is about you and your partner and the day should reflect you two. John and I loved the outdoors so we knew it had to be outside, so we looked for somewhere beautiful to tie the knot and were fortunate to come across NZ Heli Weddings. Don't sweat the small stuff, ultimately as long as you're getting to marry and celebrate with your partner then that's all that matters. (Also, eat! Don't get hangry!)
